A strange story out of the Midwest: police say a man stole a pickup truck with a sleeping man and his pet goat inside, then led officers on a slow speed chase across state lines.
According to police, a 40 year old man named Brandon took the truck while it was parked outside a store in Carthage, Missouri. The owner of the truck was inside shopping, and the man and goat were reportedly in the vehicle at the time. Police say Brandon was unaware anyone was inside.
Authorities say the man was awakened and held at gunpoint, and reports say he was hit with a pistol. The truck was then driven to Creek County, Oklahoma, where police say the man and the goat were left on the side of the road. The man called 911 right away, and both he and the goat were reported to be okay.
Oklahoma police reportedly contacted OnStar, which slowed the stolen truck down remotely to about 15 mph. Police say the driver still did not stop, even after driving over a spike strip. Officers forced the truck into a ditch in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, and the driver ran off on foot. He was found hiding in tall grass.
Police also said Brandon had recently been released from prison and was wanted in Osage County in a separate burglary case. Police said he was under the influence of methamphetamine at the time. A response from Brandon was not available in the reports. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
