If you’re wondering who pays more in dating, men or women, it isn’t even close. Men have been spending money to get a woman’s attention since the beginning of time. The real question is whether the ladies spend anything at all.
Let’s break down how men pay.
The obvious one is the date itself. When a man takes you to dinner, he’s covering the meal, and if he’s honest with himself, he’s usually hoping the night ends at his place. Then there are the gifts and the favors, the little things he does to stay on your good side.
It goes deeper than that. When a man goes shopping for new clothes, he isn’t doing it for his homeboys. He’s dressing for the ladies. When he goes to the club, he almost definitely paid to get in. And when he’s buying the bar for a woman he just met, he isn’t doing it to be generous. That’s an investment. Even if a woman drives to his house, some men will hand her gas money for the trip. Add it all up and men are running a tab every time they leave the house.
Now let’s switch to women.
Women aren’t known for spending money on men, or at least when we do, we keep it quiet. I have come across plenty of women who feel like they have to spend money to keep a man. In those cases, the men were usually ain’t [expletive] men to begin with.
We do spend something. We burn gas to get to a guy’s house, and that counts as an investment. We spend money on clothes, shoes and hair too. But let’s be honest: half the time we aren’t trying to impress him. We’re trying to impress, and usually outdo, the next chick.
At the club, the odds are in our favor. Ladies usually get in free for most of the night, so if you’re in the door before 11 p.m., you didn’t pay a dime. Once you’re inside, somebody is probably buying your drinks. Another win.
So when you weigh men against women, men pay a whole lot more in dating than women do.
And I think that’s only fair. Once a man gets what he wants, women are the ones who end up putting up with all the foolishness that comes after. If you ask me, from here on out, men should be paying even more.
