The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested a former Murray County detention center officer on rape charges.

Kirk Taylor Martin, 28, of Acworth, was arrested last Friday morning after he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman from Thursday afternoon to Friday morning, the GBI said in a news release.

According to Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) records, Martin was a jailer from March 2017 until he was fired for violating multiple jail policies. Murray County sheriff’s Deputy Chief Jimmy Davenport said some of those violations included giving an inmate the wrong prescription medication among other procedural issues.

According to GBI special agent, Greg Ramey explained that the scratches across Martin’s chest and neck, which are visible in his booking photo, were from the victim fighting back. His eyes were also swollen from an apparent struggle.

The investigation is still ongoing, but Martin is currently being held at Murray County and was denied bond. He faces charges of rape, aggravated sexual battery, aggravated assault (family violence), criminal attempt to commit sodomy, false imprisonment and hindering an emergency call, the release said.
