The brother of Olympic gymnast Simone Biles is facing multiple murder charges. Authorities say he is under arrest for a house party shooting on New Year’s Eve that left three people dead and several others wounded.
Tevin Biles-Thomas, 24, of Cleveland, was arrested on Thursday and charged with multiple counts of murder, voluntary manslaughter, felonious assault and one count of perjury, according to the Cleveland Division of Police and the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office. He’s currently being held at a jail in Georgia, where he was arrested.
“The relentless persistence of Cleveland police homicide detectives helped secure an indictment in this case,” Cuyahoga County prosecutor Michael O’Malley said to Cleveland.com in a statement. “It is through their hard work that we can begin to seek justice for these victims.”
According to the statement, the shooting took place at a party at 11:30 p.m on Dec. 31, 2018. An “uninvited group” showed up at the party and were asked to leave, when they didn’t, a fight broke out. The fight led to gunfire, which left three men dead and two other party attendees wounded.
Fans took to Twitter to send love to Simone Biles following the news of her brother’s arrest. One person wrote: “Sending love to champion #SimoneBiles we are NOT our families. Thank God I am not judged by some of the characters in my family tree–or I would be in trouble. Simone is a curse breaker. She rose above. Her brother is responsible for his own raggedy criminal actions. NOT HER!!!”
Another wrote, “Had no idea what you were going through but knew you needed some encouragement. You’ve endured much. You have fortitude, discipline, and focus. Some things you just have to give to God. Pray for all families involved and let it go! Love and grace to you!”
Reports say that Biles-Thomas is on active duty with the Army. Jail records state that his bond has not been set and he is due for arraignment on Sept. 13. in Ohio.
Simone Biles has not commented on her brother’s arrest.
