The brother of Olympic gymnast Simone Biles has been arrested and charged in connection with a deadly house party shooting on New Year’s Eve.
Tevin Biles-Thomas, 24, of Cleveland, was arrested Thursday in Georgia. According to the Cleveland Division of Police and the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, he is charged with multiple counts of murder, voluntary manslaughter and felonious assault, along with one count of perjury. He is being held in a Georgia jail.
Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley said in a statement to Cleveland.com, “The relentless persistence of Cleveland police homicide detectives helped secure an indictment in this case. It is through their hard work that we can begin to seek justice for these victims.”
According to the statement, the shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2018. An uninvited group showed up at the party and was asked to leave. When they did not, a fight broke out and led to gunfire. Three men were killed and two other people were wounded.
Reports say Biles-Thomas is on active duty with the Army. Jail records show his bond has not been set, and he is due for arraignment on Sept. 13 in Ohio. An indictment is an accusation, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Many fans took to social media to send support to Simone, who has not commented publicly on her brother’s arrest.
