A man who was high on methamphetamine stole a pickup truck containing a sleeping man and his pet goat, taking the two along with him for part of his slow and steady joy ride.
Police say 40-year-old Brandon Kirby stole a pickup truck that was parked outside an adult video store in Carthage, MO. Unbeknownst to Kirby, a man and his pet goat were both in the vehicle at the time waiting on the driver, who had gone shopping in the store.
When the man was awakened, Kirby proceeded to hold him at gunpoint before pistol-whipping him. He then took meth before driving the car from Carthage to Creek County, Oklahoma, which is about 150 miles south of Kansas City.
Once in Creek County, Kirby ditched the man and the goat on the side of the road before taking off with the truck. The man quickly called 911 to report the incident.
Oklahoma police contacted OnStar, who was able to slow down the stolen truck remotely. That brought the car down to a slow trek of 15 mph. Even then, Kirby refused to surrender. He drove the truck over a spike strip, flattening the vehicle’s tires, which still did not deter him.
Police were able to force Kirby off of the road and into a ditch in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. He then abandoned the car, taking police on a short foot chase. The inebriated carjacker was located attempting to conceal himself in the tall grass.
It was later discovered that Kirby was recently released from prison. He was wanted on burglary charges in Osage County, just north of where the chase concluded, which is likely why he was so resilient in his quest to evade authorities.
