As Trump continues to peddle the false narrative that the election was plagued by rampant voter fraud, his campaign started raising money for an “election defense fund” to bring legal challenges in multiple states.

The Trump campaign is looking to file legal challenges in at least four battleground states, including Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Georgia.

The donation page’s fine print states that about half of the donation will go toward paying off debt from the president’s re-election campaign. The other half will go toward the campaign’s recount account, according to The Wall Street Journal.

On Wednesday, the president’s campaign and the Republican National Committee began bombarding supporters with texts and emails asking supporters to contribute to Trump’s legal defense fund.

We must PROTECT the Election!” one campaign text signed by Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. said, according to WSJ. “My father’s calling on YOU to help bolster our critical Election Defense Fund.”

In another fundraising effort, called the Make Trump America Great Again Committee, 60 percent of contributions will go toward retiring campaign debt, according to its disclaimer. The other 40 percent goes to the Republican National Committee. The campaign is a joint effort between Trump and the RNC.

President-elect Joe Biden is also asking for donations for legal battles. The disclaimer does not say anything about debt retirement. Still, a portion of the contribution will go to the Democratic National Committee.
