On Monday, The New Jersey Department of Health announced its first case of monkeypox had been reported following a positive test completed on Saturday.

The CDC is reportedly testing the sample to make sure it is monkeypox.

According to social media posts from the city’s official accounts, the case originated in Jersey City.

“Our health officials are working closely with the CDC,” read a post from the city’s Instagram account.

The individual is reportedly isolating himself at home.

“The local health depart is conducting contact tracing to identify any individuals who may have been exposed to the [infected].”

Due to patient confidentiality, no further information was provided.

The majority of New Jersey citizens are not at risk of infection, according to health experts.

Monkeypox can cause skin blisters and pimples. Patients have also reported rashes as a result of the blisters.

According to the health department, the virus can be transferred by sharing bodily fluids or clothing with an infected person or animal. It can also be caught by inhaling respiratory droplets while speaking with another person.

As of Friday, the CDC has confirmed 113 cases of monkeypox in 20 states and the District of Columbia.
