Serena Williams has faced critics throughout her career, but one rival’s odd theory took things to a new level.
On a recent episode of “The Stockton Street” podcast, the 23-time Grand Slam champion revealed a moment from her playing days that left even her stunned. According to Serena, a former opponent actually believed her on-court dominance came from supernatural sources.
“The craziest thing I ever heard about me was that I did witchcraft, black magic, because I was beating some girl a lot,” she said, seated alongside her sister Venus and special guest Ciara. “And so she claimed that we did black magic to beat her.”
While Serena kept the identity of the player private, Venus chimed in with more details, saying, “From what I understand, someone on her team consulted a black magician to beat you.”
Now retired from professional tennis, Serena continues to use her platform to address everything from body image to motherhood. She recently opened up about losing more than 30 pounds with a GLP-1 medication, telling PEOPLE, “I feel great. I feel really good and healthy. I feel light physically and light mentally.”
The tennis player in question has not stepped up to identify herself or tell her side of the black magic mayhem.
