Michael Jordan is turning love for his mother into real impact by donating $10 million to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina. The generous gift will help launch the Deloris Jordan Neuroscience Institute, set to open in 2026.
This new center will provide advanced care for patients facing neurological conditions like stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and spinal disorders. It’s one of the biggest healthcare donations in the region’s history.
“My mother taught me the importance of compassion and community, and I can’t think of a better way to honor her,” Jordan said in a statement.
Deloris Jordan has long championed education and healthcare through the James R. Jordan Foundation. Her commitment deepened after the tragic 1993 murder of her husband, James Jordan Sr., during a robbery in North Carolina. That loss pushed her to support families in need through youth programs and medical outreach.
She called her son’s donation “humbling,” noting how it aligns with her mission to bring high-level care to those who need it most.
Novant Health said the funds will help recruit top specialists, upgrade technology, and expand clinical services. The goal is to reduce travel time for patients who often struggle to find local neurological care.
Jordan’s previous partnerships with Novant include opening two family clinics in Charlotte. Now, with this new institute bearing his mother’s name, he’s setting a new bar for giving back.
