Darren Sharper is now the subject of a third sexual assault investigation, with New Orleans police confirming that a woman filed a complaint against the former NFL star last September.
New Orleans Police Department spokeswoman Remi Braden said in a statement Saturday that the department is investigating an allegation of sexual assault filed against Sharper. “As with every case alleging sexual assault, information gathered is extremely sensitive and the top priority of the detectives is to protect the person who filed the complaint,” the NOPD told WDSU. According to WDSU, the alleged incident took place at a private residence in the city’s Warehouse District. Sharper has not been charged in the New Orleans case.
The news comes a day after Sharper was arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of rape. The LAPD says it is investigating him in connection with two separate sexual assaults in the West Los Angeles area, one in October and another earlier this month. The 38 year old was booked into the Los Angeles County jail and released Friday night after posting $200,000 bail. NFL Network, where Sharper worked as an analyst, has suspended him without pay.
Sharper played 14 seasons in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints, recording 63 career interceptions. He was a five time Pro Bowl selection and won a Super Bowl with the Saints, which made him a popular figure in New Orleans long after his playing days ended.
