Alix Lapri, who plays Effie Morales on “Power Book II: Ghost,” was arrested on Sunday, August 18th, in DeKalb County, Georgia.
She was charged with third-degree cruelty to children and disorderly conduct, according to WSB-TV in Atlanta. Lapri was booked into the DeKalb County Jail and released roughly 24 hours later, on Monday, August 19th.
Under Georgia law, third-degree cruelty to children applies when someone knowingly allows a minor to witness or hear an act of violence, such as battery or a forcible felony.
The law does not require the child to be physically harmed but focuses on exposure to potentially traumatic events. Authorities have not disclosed the circumstances that led to the arrest, and Lapri has not issued a public statement regarding the charges. However, unconfirmed rumors online have claimed Lapri got into a physical altercation with a relative while a child was present.
Despite her legal troubles, Lapri has remained active on social media. On Monday, she shared a motivational post, writing, “Gotta keep at it, buddy. Chase the dream and know no fear.”
Her continued engagement with fans shows her focus on maintaining her career and public presence amid the situation.
Michael Rainey Jr., her co-star on the series, publicly defended Lapri in the comment section of an Instagram post about her arrest.
“On the real though, y’all gotta start reading before commenting. She didn’t hurt any kids. Y’all are hoping that’s the case so bad.. that’s crazy smh,” he wrote, countering speculation and clarifying that no children were harmed by Lapri.
