Amazon is readying a series that will focus on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the best selling novel by the late author Stieg Larsson, in the latest production by the streaming platform to be based on popular books.
The project presented by Left Bank Pictures will be based on Lisbeth Salander, the main character of the best-selling Millennium trilogy. The series will find the character in an all-new setting as she maneuvers through today’s society in an effort to pull in new fans while satisfying the original fans. The series is in production with Amazon Studios and Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures TV. Left Bank founder and CEO Andy Harries and Rob Bullock will executive produce while a has yet to be announced.
Larsson’s novels went on to be international hits following his death in 2004, selling over 60 million copies. Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest have all been adapted into feature films in Sweden starring Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth.
Other Amazon productions based on best selling novels include the Lord of the Rings series, Jack Ryan, The Boys, Daisy Jones, and the Six and Wheel of Time.
