A Macon youth pastor and Christian schoolteacher claimed he was robbed and kidnapped. Police found out the robbery never occurred and ended up arresting the man after it was discovered that he arranged to meet a man on Craigslist for sex.

56-year-old Christopher Keys has since been charged with solicitation of sodomy. This all started with a rumor about a robbery and kidnapping that began “circulating around on Facebook. After receiving an inquiry about a separate issue, a rumored “carjacking, and kidnapping,” Bibb County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation into the incident that allegedly took place on Wednesday at the CVS Pharmacy on the 1600 block of Forest Hill Drive. However, the victim in both of crimes was Keys.

When authorities came to the conclusion that the CVS incident never happened, they continued to work with Keys, who said he was robbed of his wallet, cellphone, and keys by two masked men who entered his hotel room on Tuesday at Regency Inn & Suites in Macon. Police met with Keys about the alleged armed robbery, and he told them he was able to get his cell phone back from “an unknown individual” who brought it to the hotel after retrieving it from a nearby Walmart parking lot. During their meeting, Keys also told authorities that he was supposed to meet a man in his hotel room who arranged to meet via Craigslist.

An investigation revealed that Keys had been frequenting the hotel since January. He initially told police that he didn’t want the details of the case to get out, and said he didn’t want police to speak with his family about it. He explained to them that he planned to tell his father that he was kidnapped from one location and brought to the hotel, according to a press release. Since then, Keys has been removed from Tattnall Square Academy’s website, where he formally taught. The school said it has no comment on the case. Keys reportedly claimed two Black men robbed him.
