The Cleveland Cavaliers have suspended center Andrew Bynum indefinitely. The team announced on Saturday that the suspension is for “conduct detrimental to the team,” and general manager Chris Grant said Bynum did not travel to Boston for the game against the Celtics and has been excused from all team activities for now.
Coach Mike Brown called it an “internal matter” and offered little explanation, saying the team’s focus is on the players in the locker room. According to Yahoo Sports, an unnamed league source claimed that Bynum “doesn’t want to play basketball anymore.” ESPN and Yahoo also reported that Cleveland plans to look for a trade before his salary becomes guaranteed on January 7.
Bynum has not commented publicly, and the team has not said exactly what led to the suspension. Plenty of speculation has been floating around online, but none of it has been confirmed, so we are leaving it out until someone actually speaks on the record.
We will keep you posted as the situation develops.
