Prolific con artist Anna Sorokin, best known by her scam name “Anna Delvey,” is a free woman…for now.

The Russian-born fraudster became the subject of the popular Netflix series, Inventing Anna, which explored her long-running web of deception. The 31-year-old posed as a German heiress living it up in Manhattan, New York. She claimed to be paid from her wealthy family’s money. Instead, Sorokin scammed friends and banks out of thousands using fraudulent checks and fake payments to fund her high-end lifestyle.

Sorokin was convicted in 2019 of attempted grand larceny, three grand larceny counts, and a misdemeanor charge of theft of services. She was sentenced to four to 12 years. Sorokin was released in February 2021 for good behavior after she paid back her victims. However, weeks later, the woman was arrested and placed in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody, where she has remained until this week.

She had to post a $10,000 bond to be freed from ICE and is still grappling with possible deportation. Under the terms of her release, Sorokin must remain in home confinement for 24 hours until those proceedings play out. She must also steer clear of social media.

Her attorney Duncan Levin said they are “extremely gratified” with the outcome and look forward to vindicating Sorokin. As for watching a depiction of herself on Netflix, the faux socialite says she is not interested in the film whatsoever. Instead, her focus is on appealing her 2019 conviction.

“Nothing about seeing a fictionalized version of myself in this criminal-insane-asylum setting sounds appealing to me,” Sorokin wrote in a previous essay with Insider.

Welcome home, Anna.
