Apple Finally Lets CarPlay Play Videos — But Only When Parked

Apple is changing course with CarPlay after keeping things locked down for over a decade. Starting with iOS 26, the tech giant will finally allow video playback on CarPlay screens — but there’s one big catch: you’ll only be able to watch while the car is parked.

The new feature is called “video in the car” and it’s officially listed on Apple’s developer website. According to the update, users will be able to stream content from their iPhones straight to their CarPlay display using AirPlay video.

That means apps could eventually support movies, shows, or even YouTube-style clips through CarPlay. But there’s still one major question: how many carmakers will actually support the feature? Apple hasn’t confirmed which vehicles will allow it yet.

While you won’t be binge-watching on the highway, this update finally puts CarPlay in line with what drivers have been asking for, a true infotainment hub that goes beyond just navigation and music.
