Apple Removed App That Promotes Pandemic Parties From The App Store

Apple has removed an app called Vybe Together that promoted underground pandemic parties from its app store after a reporter tweeted about it. The company’s TikTok account was also banned following the public’s discovery of the app.

The Verge reports that the app was removed this week, a day after New York Times reporter Taylor Lorenz tweeted about the app, referring to it as “terrible.”

The app promoted private parties, which allowed hosts to post events, and then followers could apply to attend. The purpose of Vybe Together, whose tagline is “Get your party on, Get your rebel on,” stands in stark contrast to health expert’s advice when it comes to indoor gatherings during the pandemic. Even worse, we’re currently amid a winter spike in coronavirus cases following the holidays.

The app seemed the fly under the radar and was still relatively new. The app had only 25 reviews in the app store and about 900 followers on its Instagram account.

Following the exposure, Vybe Together’s social media has been scrubbed. Their Instagram account only has two posts, both posted on Tuesday. One of the captions vows, “We are gonna come back!!!”
