A nurse in Indonesia faces up to 10 years if convicted after admitting to authorities that he removed his protective equipment to have sex with a COVID-19 patient in the bathroom.

Indonesia’s National Nurses Association learned about the incident after the patient bragged on his now-private Twitter account about how he and the nurse snuck off to a toilet in a hospital for their sexual encounter, Daily Mail notes.

Reports also mention that the patient uploaded what he referred to as “a screenshot of flirty WhatsApp messages” between them, including explicit discussions about the men’s genitals and lubricants. He also posted a picture of what looked to be the nurse’s protective gear lying on the floor during their encounter.

Both men were identified and confessed to the romantic entanglement, the Indonesia Expat reported.

‘It is true that there has been a suspected incident of a same-sex relationship between a health worker and a COVID-19 patient at the Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital,’ Asep Gunawan of Indonesia’s National Nurses Association said.

The nurse tested negative for coronavirus, has been turned over to authorities, while the patient, who still is positive for COVID-19, remains isolated at the hospital.

“This case has been transferred to the Central Jakarta Police. We have secured the health worker to become a witness and asked for further information,” Lt. Col. Arh Herwin of the Regional Military Command said per the New York Post.

‘Meanwhile, the patient continues to undergo isolation at the Athlete’s House,’ he added, referring to a former Asian Games athletes accommodation village that was transformed into a coronavirus hospital.

The nurse and patient may be prosecuted under Indonesia’s Pornography Law for the uploaded images on Twitter.

If convicted, both men face up to 10 years in prison.
