Arizona Cardinals' J.J. Watt Announces Retirement

After 12 years and nine postseason appearances, Arizona Cardinals defensive lineman J.J. Watt is calling it quits.
The future Hall of Famer announced his decision on Tuesday with a tweet confirming his desire to retire after the 2022-2023 season.
“Koa’s first-ever NFL game. My last ever NFL home game. My heart is filled with nothing but love and gratitude,” Watt wrote above a photo of his family at Sunday night’s game against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers.
“It’s been an absolute honor and pleasure.”

Koa’s first ever NFL game.
My last ever NFL home game.

My heart is filled with nothing but love and gratitude. It’s been an absolute honor and a pleasure.

Although the Arizona Cardinals have two away games left in the season, Watt made it clear that he wouldn’t be returning to the Red Sea next year. But, throughout his longstanding career, he made his presence known.
As one of three legendary ballers to be named Defensive Player of the Year three times, Watt is regarded as one of the greatest and most dominant defensive players in league history. Of his nearly 112 career sacks, Watt remains the only player to record 20-plus sacks in multiple seasons. He’s also one of four to have 100 career sacks and five touchdowns, among other off-field achievements.
According to ESPN, Watt, one of three NFL brothers, also raised over $6 million through his foundation.
Congratulations to J.J. Watt, and good luck with your next chapter.
