ASAP Rocky is one of the most celebrated rappers alive. He has the fashion, the legacy, the family with Rihanna, and the respect of an entire generation. But none of that stopped someone from trying to take everything from him. In a new interview with Vibe, Rocky broke his silence on a terrifying incident at his Los Angeles home earlier this year that targeted not just him, but his family.
Rocky didn’t sugarcoat it.
“It was f**ked up,” he said quietly. “Somebody attempted at [harming] me and my family.”
“It Took Away A Lot Of Peace” — How The Attack Changed Rocky
The physical danger was one thing. What Rocky zeroed in on was something deeper; the psychological aftermath of the terrifying shooting that doesn’t make the news but lives with you long after the threat is gone.
“It took away a lot of peace and happiness of being able to just be free,” he said. “I don’t want to be robbed of my peace and joy.”
Rihanna’s Family Was In The Crossfire
ASAP Rocky and Rihanna are raising two young sons together, RZA Athelston Mayers and Riot Rose Mayers. When Rocky says “my family,” that’s who he’s talking about.
The idea that someone targeted this household, one of the most high-profile families in music and pop culture, adds a layer to this story that goes beyond celebrity gossip. This was an attempt on a father, a partner, and potentially the children of two of the most iconic figures in their respective industries.
Several news outlets have confirmed the family was home during the time of the shooting.
Who Pulled The Trigger On Rihanna’s Home — And Where The Case Stands Now
On March 8, 2026, Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, a 35-year-old woman from Orlando, Florida, allegedly drove up to Rocky and Rihanna’s Beverly Crest home on the 9500 block of Heather Road and opened fire with an AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle. She didn’t stumble upon the address. Police say Ortiz fired around 10 shots from inside her white Tesla, parked directly across the street from the home.
Rihanna, Rocky, their three children, and Rihanna’s mother were all inside the home when the shots were fired. No one was injured.
Ortiz was charged with 14 counts including attempted murder, use of a firearm, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and shooting into an inhabited dwelling with enhancements. The LAPD confirmed she drove from Florida to Los Angeles before the shooting.
What makes this even more disturbing is the alleged motive, or the complete lack of one rooted in reality. Investigators began examining Ortiz’s social media, which included rambling videos referencing Rihanna directly. In one post, she claimed to be waiting for the singer to “say something to me directly.” In another video, she said Rihanna wants to kill her. This wasn’t a robbery. This was a targeted, delusional attack on a family with three young children inside.
A judge denied a request to send the case to mental competency proceedings, finding there was “not substantial evidence of incompetence.” Ortiz pleaded not guilty and waived her right to a speedy preliminary hearing. If convicted on all charges, she faces up to life in state prison.
