Authorities in Houston have confirmed a tragic outcome in the search for a missing pregnant woman whose disappearance had drawn widespread concern. Ashanti Allen, 23, who was eight months pregnant, was found dead on April 16, according to Texas EquuSearch. She had been missing since April 8 after last being seen leaving her apartment complex on Main Street. The case gained urgency due to her pregnancy and the unusual circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
Allen was officially reported missing on April 10 after her mother, Trisa Gaines Colbert, received a troubling message from her daughter’s phone.
“I’m leaving and never coming back,” the text read, prompting immediate concern from the family.
Colbert said the message did not sound like her daughter, leading her to check Allen’s apartment. When she arrived, Allen was gone, along with her vehicle, raising further alarm.
Search efforts intensified in the days that followed, with Texas EquuSearch establishing a command post near the area where Allen was last seen. Teams searched nearby wooded areas and open spaces using drones and all-terrain vehicles in an effort to locate her.
Investigators later used cellphone data to trace Allen’s movements. Authorities said her phone was found at Edgewood Park, and data indicated it had previously pinged near Chimney Rock Park. It was in that area where her body was ultimately discovered.
Officials have not yet released additional details regarding the circumstances of her death. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine what led to the disappearance and death of Allen and her unborn child.
