Ashanti and Keyshia Cole are the next songstresses to face off in a Verzuz battle.
The announcement was made on Friday after Cole teased a Verzuz matchup earlier in the week, with many speculating about who she would go head to head with, some suggesting Ciara as a perfect opponent. However, it appears that the deal with Ashanti may have been in the works for months now, with Cole originally hinting at a showdown with the Murder Inc. frontwoman back in May.
News of the Verzuz quickly spread across social media platforms, with both Cole and Ashanti trending for much of Friday, as fans weighed in on some of the women’s biggest records.
39-year-old Cole garnered major success after bursting onto the scene in the early 2000s with hit records such as “I Should’ve Cheated,” “Heaven Sent,” “Love,” and “I Remember.” While Ashanti, who turned 40 back in October, is widely known for her massive records such as “Foolish,” “Rain On Me,” and “Happy.” She is also recognized for penning some of Jennifer Lopez’s popular singles during that time, such as “I’m Real.”
Verzuz founder and producer Timbaland also confirmed the epic showdown, saying that the “paperwork is in.”
“What a night this going to be !!!! @ashanti vs. @KeyshiaCole. Who you got ?”
The Verzuz will take place on Saturday, December 12th at 8:00 p.m. and will be the fourth all women battle.
Who do you think will win this one?
