Atlanta police announced an investigation into multiple allegations of child abuse connected to a program at the West End Family Life and Community Center on Donnelly Avenue.
According to police, the investigation involves several children under 12 who were allegedly abused between 2016 and 2018. Police said the case began earlier this year when a parent reported an allegation involving her daughter.
Police said the suspect had not been publicly identified. Authorities said the suspect is connected to the church that owns the facility, and they did not say whether anyone else at the church knew about the alleged abuse.
“This case is heartbreaking because the people entrusted to protect children, our most vulnerable population, violated their trust and harmed innocent children,” said Lt. Felicia Claxton of the APD Special Victims Unit. Police are asking any other possible victims or witnesses to come forward.
A neighbor told reporters the building seemed normal and that he had no idea anything was wrong. Because of the nature of the case, police did not release details about the victims or what happened. No one had been publicly charged at the time of this report.
