AT&T’s $177 million data breach settlement is one of the most important consumer deadlines this year, and the claims window is closing soon.
Millions of customers still have the chance to file for payouts that can reach up to $7,500 if they were affected by both breaches. Payments are expected to begin in 2026, so customers are rushing to see if they qualify.
The settlement covers two major incidents in 2024. The first breach, on March 30, 2024, exposed sensitive customer information on the dark web, including names, addresses, birthdates, email addresses, phone numbers, billing account numbers, account passcodes, and Social Security numbers.
The second breach, discovered on July 12, 2024, revealed call logs, phone numbers, interaction counts, call frequencies, and some cell site IDs. Both cases were combined in one settlement, and AT&T denied any wrongdoing.
How much you can receive depends on which breach affected your data.
The March breach included more sensitive personal information. Customers whose Social Security number was leaked fall into the highest tier. The July breach involved call-related information, placing affected customers in a lower tier.
People impacted by both breaches may qualify for the maximum payout of $7,500.
The payout structure is tiered:
- March breach: Up to $5,000 for documented losses dating back to 2019. Tier 1 is for Social Security number exposure, Tier 2 is for other personal data.
- July breach: Up to $2,500 for documented losses after April 14, 2024.
- Tier 3: A pro-rata payment option for those who do not have documentation.
Checking eligibility is simple.
You can visit the official settlement website, click “submit claim,” and verify using your name, email, account number, or settlement ID. If you never received a notice, you can call Kroll Settlement Administration at 833-890-4930 for assistance.
The deadline to submit a claim is December 18, 2025, and all online or mailed submissions must be received by that date.
Opt-outs and objections are due by November 18, 2025. A judge will review the settlement for final approval on January 15, 2026, and payments are expected shortly afterward.
Filing early is critical for anyone whose information was exposed in either breach to ensure they get their share of the settlement.
