Fans were outraged last night when Karrueche Tran, who was co-hosting 106 & Park made an inappropriate joke about Blue Ivy’s hair and while many placed the blame on Karrueche for not refusing to tell the joke, apparently there is a lot more to the story.
Sources close to Karrueche’s camp spoke with Baller Alert and stated that the VMA’s bit was added merely 10 minutes prior to the live show. BET came in to Karrueche’s dressing room and told her there were changes to the script to include a bit about the MTV VMA’s. When Karrueche’s team asked for a new script, they said they were tweaking it. Karrueche never got a new script and read the Blue Ivy joke for the first time on the TelePrompTer. Our sources say Karrueche’s management was furious with BET and BET’s response was that it was all in good fun and not a big deal. Karrueche on the other hand, especially after reading everyone’s messages on Twitter, was deeply hurt.
This wouldn’t be the first time BET has been accused of setting someone up for the okie doke in the last minute. You may recall the Keshia Chante vs August Alsina 106 & Park debacle, #AskDraya, Mindless Behavior vs. Lauryn Hill at the BET Awards & the time the BET Awards contest winner Tiffany Green was told to read Chris Brown was a winner when he was beat by Rihanna.
It’s kind of sad that a network would pull stunts like this for ratings, or whatever reason, time and time again. It’s extremely sad that a network that is supposed to be for the young urban community would use the young urban community as a pawn in petty back and forth games. If you are upset that Beyonce chose to perform live at the VMA’s over the BET Awards, I’m sure there is a member of Bey’s team you can speak to, not use your 106 & Park host to take shots at her defenseless child. I hope that this was all a misunderstanding and that it’s not being done maliciously, because if so, that’s extremely distasteful and apologies need to be issued all around.
