Video published by TMZ on Friday, August 22, 2014 shows Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie Mike Evans in a heated moment outside a Miami nightclub. In the clip, Evans is seen arguing with bouncers before a scuffle breaks out in the street. TMZ reported that no arrests were made.
The timing matters here. Evans said the video was taken in March, during a spring trip, while he was vacationing in Miami and before he was drafted. That would put it well before he signed with the team and before he was subject to the NFL’s personal conduct policy. Evans also said the situation escalated very quickly, that no one was injured, and that he regretted it had become a distraction.
The Buccaneers and head coach Lovie Smith said after speaking with Evans that their feelings about him had not changed and that they consider the matter closed.
What do you think? Fair to call it old news, or should the league take a look?
