Authorities say a California man is being held on suspicion of murder after a crash that killed three teenage boys on Sunday night.
The California Highway Patrol identified the suspect as Anurag, 42. According to PEOPLE, he was driving an Infiniti Q50 when he struck a 2002 Toyota Prius carrying six teens in Temescal Valley around 10:30 p.m. The impact reportedly forced the Prius into a tree. CHP Officer David Yokley told reporters at a press conference that investigators believe the crash was intentional.
CBS Los Angeles reports that the three teens who died were all 16 years old. KABC reports one was pronounced dead at the scene and two others died at the hospital. The remaining passengers were hospitalized and are expected to survive.
CHP says there is no confirmed motive at this time. A mother of one of the teens told KTLA the group was out for a birthday celebration and had been playing a doorbell prank on houses beforehand, which she believes upset the driver and led him to chase them. Authorities have not confirmed that account.
Police say Anurag left the scene after the crash, but a witness followed him and told authorities where he was. He was arrested and is being held on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. No response from him or an attorney was included in the reports we reviewed, and he has not been convicted of any crime.
