An elderly couple traveling from northern California was arrested in Nebraska in December 2017 after deputies reportedly found about 60 pounds of marijuana in their pickup truck, according to news reports at the time.
Reports said York County officials pulled the couple over on Interstate 80 on a Tuesday for failing to signal. They were reportedly on their way to Boston and Vermont. Deputies said they smelled marijuana during the stop and asked to search the vehicle. According to reports, 80 year old Patrick agreed to the search and admitted he had marijuana in the car.
Deputies reportedly found the marijuana in the truck’s topper, along with several containers of concentrated THC, with a combined value of more than $300,000. Reports said the couple told officials they were taking the marijuana to give away as Christmas presents.
The couple was cited on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and not having a drug tax stamp, which Nebraska requires. Patrick was reportedly held in the York County jail. His 83 year old wife was cited but not jailed because of medical issues, according to reports.
The charges are accusations, and the outcome of the case was not known at the time of reporting.
