Cardi B Says BBLs Make Shopping For Jeans The Drama, Her Old Navy Campaign Is An Answer

The Cardi B campaign for Old Navy turns a denim advertisement into a conversation about body shape, personal style, and the frustration people experience when their curves do not match a standard size chart. The retailer tapped Cardi to lead its fall 2026 Most Wanted Denim rollout, a Western inspired campaign centered on relaxed silhouettes and individual expression.

The rapper tweeted, “When you have a BBL it’s hard to find jeans… but Old Navy got everything for everybody!”

The Old Navy collab works because Cardi does not separate fashion from personality. She can model a look, crack a joke, and make a polished commercial feel like a conversation happening inside the group chat.

On Old Navy’s current campaign page, the retailer places several featured cuts front and center, including the Arc, Extra High Rise Wide Leg, Low Rise Baggy, and 90s Loose fits. Rather than presenting one body or silhouette as the ideal, the Cardi B campaign makes variety part of the visual message. Different proportions, styling choices, and personalities exist within the same fashion world. That approach gives the advertisement a more useful message than another celebrity simply posing in a pair of jeans and telling consumers to buy them.

That message also comes with personal history. During an exclusive interview with People, Cardi revealed that she once layered multiple pairs of tights under her jeans as a teenager because she felt insecure about looking too thin. Cardi associated a curvier shape with the beauty standards she encountered while growing up in the South Bronx.

Now, the rapper is leading a national denim campaign that celebrates the curves she once tried to create through clothing. That full circle detail gives the Cardi B campaign more depth than its BBL punch line. Cardi’s cosmetic procedure history requires precision because a Brazilian Butt Lift is not the same procedure she originally described receiving. In a 2018 GQ profile, Cardi discussed getting unlicensed butt injections when she was 21. The procedure involved injected material rather than fat transferred from another area of her body, which is the process generally associated with a traditional BBL.

Cardi later told followers that she underwent surgery in August 2022 to remove approximately 95 percent of the biopolymer material. She warned younger fans against turning to similar injections simply because they did not have enough body fat for another type of enhancement.

Her openness allows the campaign to use humor without erasing the more complicated reality behind her body transformation.

Her recent comments add another layer to that history. Cardi said during a July 2026 Instagram Live that she had another reduction procedure in January 2024. She did not want to undergo another major operation because of the extensive recovery and potential effects on her body. Cardi pushed back against viewers who continued telling her to reduce her backside. She explained that she had already undergone a reduction and made it clear that she was comfortable with her current appearance.

The timing of the campaign is also strong for Cardi. “WAP,” her 2020 collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, was officially Diamond certified on August 3, 2026. The certification represents Cardi’s fourth Diamond single and extends her record for the most Diamond certified singles by a female rapper.

That music milestone arrived just before the Old Navy rollout, giving Cardi major moments in fashion and music during the same week. The Cardi B campaign lands while her catalog continues collecting industry recognition, rather than operating as a nostalgic celebrity placement disconnected from her current career.

    WRONG!!!

A DRESS IS THE ANSWER!!! NOT LEGGINGS WITH THE BOOTY DEFINED BY A LINE DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE LEGGINGS BETWEEN THE CHEEKS…

    A DRESS. WITH DANGLY EARRINGS!!!

ONLY DRAMA IN JEANS FOR ‘PLUS SIZE’ WOMEN IS HOW BAGGY, AND/OR “WHY? CONSTRUCTION ARCHITECTURE CAN BE PERFORMED BY A WOMAN WEARING LEGGINGS WITH A SKIRT TOO.”
