Cardi B opened her NPR Tiny Desk Concert with “Hello,” and she came in loud from the first bar.

The performance premiered Monday, October 19, at noon Eastern on NPR Music’s YouTube channel, putting the Bronx rapper behind one of the most famous desks in music.
Adam Blackstone served as music director for the set and played bass and keys, leading a full live band with guitar, drums, saxophone and trumpet. Blackstone is one of the most in demand music directors in the business, best known for leading the music behind Rihanna’s Super Bowl LVII halftime show.
“Hello” is the second song on Cardi’s sophomore album, “AM I THE DRAMA?” The 23 song project dropped September 19, 2025, and was her first full studio album since her debut.
The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and “Hello” reached No. 46 on the Billboard Hot 100 during its opening week.
Cardi has used the song as an entrance before. On her Little Miss Drama Tour, she opened her San Francisco show with “Hello,” complete with a dramatic entrance and fireworks.
Tiny Desk strips all of that away. There are no arenas, no pyro and no choreography, just the artist, the band and a crowded office. For Cardi, whose biggest hits include “Bodak Yellow,” “I Like It” and “WAP,” it puts the focus on her voice and delivery.
She did not need the fireworks. She did not need the stage. She walked up to the desk and made the room hers.
