Cardi B had fans buzzing after she revealed that the NFL offered her the chance to headline the Super Bowl halftime show, but she turned it down.

In a new interview with Billboard, the Bronx rapper explained that she wasn’t ready to take on the massive stage just yet. “I got asked to do the Super Bowl and I denied it,” she said, adding that she wants to wait until she’s got more chart-topping hits and more stage experience so she can “eat that up” when the timing feels right.

The halftime show is one of the most-watched performances in the world, drawing over 100 million viewers. For Cardi, it’s not about the spotlight—it’s about making sure she delivers the best show possible when her moment comes.

This isn’t Cardi’s first Super Bowl-related decision. Back in 2019, she declined to join Maroon 5 on stage during their halftime show performance, citing support for Colin Kaepernick and his protest against racial injustice. At the time, she said the cause was bigger than the opportunity.

Still, her recent admission sparked debate online. Some fans questioned whether she has enough hits to hold down a full halftime show, while others pointed to her record-breaking success. With multiple Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles, a Grammy, and platinum-certified albums, Cardi has already cemented herself as one of the biggest female rappers in history.

Whether people agree with her decision or not, Cardi is clearly playing the long game. She’s waiting until she feels completely ready to own one of the most iconic stages in music—and when that day comes, she plans to make sure the performance is unforgettable.
