Cardi B’s Met Gala weekend took a messy turn after reports surfaced that her security team was involved in a scuffle with a fan.
According to TMZ, the incident happened around 2 a.m. on Tuesday outside the Mark Hotel in New York City, after Cardi, who is expecting, left a Met Gala afterparty. TMZ reports a man approached the rapper for an autograph. She reportedly politely declined, but he kept at it and told her he was an “autograph hound.” Moments later, TMZ says, a group of men took him to the ground.
TMZ reports the man later told officials that three security guards pushed him down and beat him, and that he was taken to a local hospital for treatment of neck and back injuries.
A man who identified himself as Giovanni told The Blast a different version of events. According to The Blast, Giovanni claims Offset was upset with how he approached Cardi while the couple waited in a car outside the hotel, and that Offset told three men in his entourage to “go after” him. Those are Giovanni’s claims only. The reports we saw did not include a response from Cardi B or Offset, and nothing has been proven.
TMZ also reports Cardi had already left by the time police arrived, while The Blast claims officials are not interested in speaking with the couple. Police are said to be investigating the incident as a misdemeanor assault involving the three men.
