Charleston White says he was shot at in Houston on Tuesday after going into the city’s Fifth Ward neighborhood by himself, and he is placing the blame directly on James Prince and the people around Rap-A-Lot Records. He posted video afterward laying out his version of the day in a four minute stretch that has been circulating across hip hop media since.
His account goes like this. He drove into Fifth Ward, the historically Black neighborhood on Houston’s north side where Prince built Rap-A-Lot and which remains closely identified with him, and he did it without security. He says he stopped at an Academy first to buy a mask and was not able to complete the purchase. He says he announced his location publicly the entire time and made no effort to hide where he was.
Charleston White frames that decision as the whole point. He says he had spent months disrespecting Rap-A-Lot, Pimp C, George Floyd, and Prince himself, and that showing up in the neighborhood alone afterward was meant to prove he could. He describes himself in the video as 125 pounds, five foot eight, with one eye and one hip higher than the other, and says he stayed for three hours while people pulled up and took pictures.
The confrontation he describes came from a group he says arrived roughly thirty deep. According to him, they did not touch him. They asked him to apologize to Prince. A larger man approached and, in White’s telling, tried to intimidate him into it, and he refused, telling the man to get with him later and handing him off to his assistant. He says the car was shot at, though he does not describe being hit or injured.
Charleston White then said he intends to walk into an FBI field office and file a report, arguing that because a representative was sent, there is something federal to document. He also said he has information from a Rap-A-Lot associate regarding the killing of Takeoff, and made a series of accusations about that case and about Prince’s family that are unsubstantiated.
The shooting itself also remains uncorroborated. No Houston Police Department confirmation has surfaced, no incident report has been made public, and the accounts circulating trace back to White’s own video and to a clip he posted.
There is history here. The feud has run for years, and it has never produced a direct public response from Prince. In 2023 his associate Terrence Williams said in an interview that Prince took White seriously and was open to sitting down with him, on the theory that people listen to what White says. That is the closest thing to acknowledgment the Prince side has offered.What separates this episode from the last several is that Charleston White put himself somewhere physical. His entire online business is built on saying things about people who could plausibly respond, then continuing to move around the country without protection, and he says so plainly in the video. He describes traveling with no security after disrespecting Crips, Bloods, and Prince, and walking around like he cannot be touched.
Tuesday is his account of what happens when that runs into an actual neighborhood. Whether it happened the way he says it did is, for now, a matter of taking him at his word.
