The child support fight between Chris Bosh and Allison Mathis, the mother of his oldest child, has taken a new turn, and it’s all about where Bosh says he lives.
According to court papers filed in Orlando and first reported by Jocks & Stiletto Jill, Bosh is listing Texas as his state of residence, not Florida. That’s notable because Bosh and his wife own a 12,000 square foot mansion in Miami, reportedly worth about $12 million. In his filing, Bosh claims a much smaller home in Dallas as his main residence.
Why does it matter? Bosh currently pays $2,600 a month in child support. Mathis’ side argues that if Florida law applied, she could be entitled to a percentage of his monthly income, which the report estimates could be around $30,000 a month. Bosh’s residency claim could keep his payments much closer to what he pays now.
Mathis has said in court filings that she lost her job and has been struggling to keep up with her mortgage.
Bosh has not commented on the filing. He grew up in Dallas, but he has played for the Miami Heat for the last two seasons and just won a championship with the team.
It will be up to the judge to decide which state’s rules apply. Either way, this is not the kind of headline a fresh NBA champion wants.
