Matt Barnes was arrested Monday night in Manhattan Beach, California, on an outstanding traffic warrant, and police say he made it worse by mouthing off to the officer.
According to TMZ, Barnes was walking in Manhattan Beach around 8:30 p.m. when police approached him. When officers ran a check, they found an outstanding warrant tied to a $26,000 unpaid ticket for driving on a suspended license.
The warrant was a misdemeanor, but law enforcement sources told TMZ that Barnes got loud with the arresting officer and resisted. He was booked for the traffic warrant and for resisting an executive officer, which is a felony.
Barnes has not commented on the arrest.
A $26,000 ticket for driving on a suspended license is bad enough on its own. Turning a traffic warrant into a felony charge is the kind of move nobody needs, especially a player looking for his next contract.
