Chris Brown and Usher have spent two decades moving between musical partnership, public praise and reported personal tension, making their rumored feud more complicated than a single backstage argument. The questions resurfaced after their November 5, 2026, concert in Atlanta, but the history begins long before The R&B Tour.
When Brown broke into music in 2005, Usher was already an established R&B star. Brown’s dancing and stage presence invited comparisons to the older performer, whose success provided an obvious reference point for a young singer building his career. Instead of becoming permanent public rivals, they developed a working relationship that produced records and shared performances.
In 2014, Chris Brown enlisted Usher and Rick Ross for “New Flame,” with all three appearing in the music video. Usher later joined Brown and Zayn Malik on the “Back to Sleep” remix, officially released on February 26, 2016. Brown, Usher and Gucci Mane followed with “Party” in December 2016. Those releases established a collaborative catalog that would eventually become central to their stadium shows.
Their connection was still strong publicly in April 2023. During an interview with Big Boy published on April 24, 2023, Usher discussed the possibility of facing Brown in a Verzuz-style event or sharing a bigger stage. “I love Chris,” he said, describing the younger star as his “little brother.” He presented a joint performance as a celebration of their mutual respect, not a battle over who belonged at the top.
Then came Chris Brown’s 34th birthday celebration in Las Vegas on the night of May 5, 2023, extending into May 6, 2023. At Skate Rock City, video showed the singers in a heated exchange. The confrontation began after Brown became upset with Teyana Taylor and Usher stepped in. The footage established an argument but did not show the alleged physical attack that later dominated headlines.
Witnesses claimed Usher followed Brown and his entourage outside and later emerged with what appeared to be a bloody nose.
On May 6, 2023, both artists performed as planned at the Lovers & Friends festival in Las Vegas. Photographs and videos from their appearances did not show obvious injuries. Chris Brown later addressed a separate backstage commotion at the festival, explaining that security was clearing an area where his child was present.

The relationship later returned to public view. On October 3, 2025, Usher joined Brown at an Atlanta stop of the Breezy Bowl tour. Brown introduced him as his “brother for life,” and they shared the stage during “Superstar.” On October 17, 2025, Brown released “It Depends (The Remix)” with Usher and Bryson Tiller.
Their biggest collaboration was announced on April 14, 2026, when Live Nation detailed The R&B Tour, a stadium run pairing Raymond and Brown. It launched in Denver on June 26, 2026. Speaking to The Associated Press shortly before opening night, Usher said Brown’s controversies had not deterred him from touring together.
“He’s my brother, and he’s amazing as a performer,” Usher said.
Onstage, the partnership became a major selling point. During an August 7, 2026, MetLife Stadium performance, the pair shared the spotlight for “Back to Sleep (Remix)” and “New Flame.” Strong demand expanded the itinerary, and Mercedes-Benz Stadium announced five Atlanta dates, a record for a single tour at the venue. The achievement made the next controversy particularly visible.
At the first Atlanta show on November 5, 2026, fans waited well beyond the advertised 7:30 p.m. start. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Brown and Usher performed separate sets instead of reuniting for their expected duets. Usher greeted the crowd with “Atlanta, welcome to my show,” a remark that drew scrutiny after the unusual staging.
The following day, it was reported that the singers argued backstage about whether to delay the show for fans caught in traffic. Chris Brown reportedly wanted to begin; Usher allegedly wanted to wait. Sources told TMZ “egos” and said the disagreement remained unresolved, but neither artist had verified their account. Brown posted “don’t fall for it” on Instagram Stories without specifying which rumors he was addressing.
Chris Brown and Usher have had their moments, but they’ve also made it clear they can put their differences aside when it’s time to hit the stage. Now, with alleged fresh tension brewing in Atlanta, fans are wondering if this is just another bump in the road or if things between the two R&B stars are getting messy all over again.
