Chris Rock opened up about his past porn addiction, infidelity, and the mistakes he made during his marriage to Malaak Compton-Rock in a revealing GQ interview published November 3, 2026. The 61-year-old comedian revisited some of his most personal admissions from his 2018 Netflix comedy special, “Tamborine,” while explaining how his behavior and outlook have changed since his divorce.
“I was not a great husband. I watched a lot of porn. I don’t watch porn anymore. I haven’t watched porn in five, six years,” Rock told GQ.
The conversation began when interviewer Zach Baron revisited Tamborine, where Rock previously described himself as an unfaithful husband who struggled with pornography. In the special, Rock admitted, “I was addicted to porn.”
Baron also reminded Rock of another confession from his stand-up special: “I didn’t listen. I wasn’t kind…. I cheated.”
Rather than distance himself from those admissions, Rock acknowledged his behavior and the personal reckoning that followed.
“It’s not anything I’m proud of, but it’s something I had to go through,” he explained.
Rock compared his younger self to a superhero who discovers extraordinary abilities, becomes reckless with that power, and eventually learns he is not invincible. The comedian suggested he had experienced a similar awakening in his personal life.

“I tested my powers. I definitely realized I wasn’t God or anywhere near him, and I was severely humbled, as I should have been.”
Rock’s admissions about porn addiction and cheating revisit a difficult chapter of his life that played out publicly after nearly two decades of marriage.
He and Malaak married in 1996 and announced their separation in December 2014. Their divorce was finalized in August 2016, ending a marriage of approximately 20 years. The former couple shares two daughters, Lola Simone and Zahra Savannah.
Malaak, a philanthropist known for her charitable work, previously described the separation as a carefully considered decision and emphasized that their children’s well-being remained her priority.
Rock’s infidelity was not a new revelation. During a 2017 interview with Rolling Stone, he acknowledged cheating on his then-wife with three women and discussed how his fame and financial success had affected his decisions. He later incorporated his marital failures into Tamborine, using the comedy special to address the consequences of his actions.
His latest GQ conversation also explored how his struggles with porn addiction coincided with a period of self-examination and efforts to better understand his behavior.
Rock discussed being diagnosed with nonverbal learning disorder, a condition that can affect a person’s ability to interpret nonverbal communication, including facial expressions, body language, and other social cues.
“Yeah. I’m not one for a hint,” Rock said while explaining his difficulty understanding indirect communication.
According to the comedian, a friend’s observation prompted him to seek a professional assessment.
“A friend just kind of blurted it one day. You ever have somebody say something, and you’re like, ‘Okay, let me get this looked into’?”
Rock explained that the evaluation occurred around the period leading up to Tamborine, when he had already begun examining his pornography use and other personal struggles.
He described undergoing approximately eight hours of cognitive testing before receiving his diagnosis. The results helped him better understand why he sometimes struggled to recognize what other people were communicating without directly saying it.
Rock also acknowledged that learning about his disorder forced him to reconsider how insensitive some of his previous behavior had been. He explained that he had sometimes attributed communication problems to his celebrity status rather than recognizing his own difficulty interpreting social situations.
The comedian has also discussed seeking therapy as he worked through challenges in his personal relationships. During the GQ interview, he described continuing to receive support through therapy and assistance specifically related to his nonverbal learning disorder.
His divorce also affected his professional life. Rock explained that the end of his marriage contributed to the lengthy gap between directing his 2014 film “Top Five” and his new A24 project, “Misty Green.” He spent years touring, rebuilding his finances, and getting his personal life together.
