Columbus Short was arrested in Dallas over the Fourth of July weekend after a reported incident at a local bar, according to TMZ.
TMZ reported that the former Scandal actor spent about four hours at Katy Trail Ice House, a popular Dallas bar, and was drinking heavily. An eyewitness told TMZ that Short appeared to be leaving without paying his tab, and that a security guard approached him, at which point Short began yelling.
TMZ also reported that sources said Short accused the guard of racism, and that the guard, who is also Black, pushed back. A scuffle between the two reportedly followed. According to TMZ, several off duty Dallas police officers who work at the bar on weekends broke up the fight, but Short allegedly kept yelling at the officers and tried to go after them.
Officers arrested Short for public intoxication rather than assault, TMZ reported, and he was taken to jail. People magazine, citing a bar employee, also reported that Short was arrested after an alleged dispute with security. At the time of those reports, Short’s lawyer and manager had not responded to requests for comment, and Short had not publicly addressed the arrest.
Short had been in Dallas about two weeks earlier to host an event at Candleroom. We will update this story if Short or his team responds.
