A$AP Rocky has been locked up in a Swedish detention center for two weeks now, and members of the Congressional Black Caucus believe it is in violation of his human rights.

In a video released by TMZ, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries of New York says that they are committed to getting the rapper back home.

“The situation with ASAP Rocky is unfortunate, it’s outrageous, it needs to be addressed,” he said. “You can expect that members of Congress, particularly those of use who are part of the Congressional Black Caucus, are going to continue to weigh in forcefully until ASAP Rocky is free.”

On Wednesday, Jeffries joined forces with Rep. André Carson, Congressman Adriano Espaillat, and several others on the steps of Capitol Hill, in protest of the rapper’s arrest. Despite their efforts, it was revealed that the Swedish Embassy is refusing to support A$AP Rocky’s release, so they are calling on the government for help.

“There are certainly some facts about the arrest and detention that raise concerns,” a spokesperson for the U.S Department of State said in a statement issued earlier this week.

“We expect all governments, including Sweden, to treat American citizens fairly and with respect. We hope to see ASAP Rocky and his colleagues back on tour and reunited with friends and family soon.”

Surprisingly, A$AP hasn’t officially been charged. He is currently under investigation for aggravated assault stemming from the July 3 incident.
