The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania has denied Sherri Shepherd’s request to appeal a ruling that made her the legal mother of a child born to her and ex-husband Lamar Sally, via a surrogate. In the ruling, Shepherd would be responsible for child support as well as expenses incurred by the surrogate.

“After numerous court battles over the past two years, I am glad this case is finally over and that the ruling that Sherri is the legal mother to our son will stand. Now I can fully focus on raising my son,” Sally said in a statement.

Sherri and Lamar wed in 2011. During their marriage they decided that they wanted to expand their family. They began pursuing fertility options using Sally’s sperm and an egg donor. Shepherd reportedly spent more than $100,000 to arrange the surrogacy but In April 2014, the couple separated. Unfortunately, the surrogate mother was already pregnant. Lamar argued that Sherri should be responsible for the child. The baby boy, Lamar Sally Jr,  was born July 28, 2014, Sally was awarded sole custody in August 2014 and Shepherd was order to pay $4,100 a month in child support.

In April 2015 the courts ruled Sherri be named the child’s legal mother.
