Tyreek Hill apparently decided there was only one way to respond after learning his name had been written into somebody else’s alleged NFL fantasy: play along. The Daejon Love fraud case has already produced federal charges, claims of a nonexistent San Francisco 49ers career and roughly $1.3 million in alleged losses, but Hill’s sarcastic response gave the bizarre story another viral chapter.

Love, 35, is accused by federal investigators of posing as a wealthy professional football player while building romantic relationships with women he met largely through dating apps. Prosecutors say the scheme stretched from February 2022 until his August 24, 2026 arrest and targeted women across Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California. At least 26 alleged victims have been identified, and the FBI says it believes there could be more.Then Hill found out he had a supporting role in the story.
After clips resurfaced showing Love claiming he personally knew several NFL receivers, Hill posted a TikTok leaning completely into the joke.
“I’m going to say this once, and I’m going to say this for all,” said Hill. “A lot of people want to know do I know Daejon Love. To be honest, that’s my boy. We used to train together and everything. I just never really thought to bring him up because bro ran like a 4.2 and like he really was nasty though.”
He added, “Those clips you seeing on the beach, bro, probably like trolling and having a good time, but bro really like that though.”
Hill’s delivery was clearly playful, but Love’s original claims were part of a much more serious federal investigation.
According to an FBI affidavit filed in Oregon, investigators found three videos on Love’s iCloud account that he allegedly shared approximately 185 times, including with multiple alleged victims. In those videos, Love claimed he was friends with Hill, Antonio Brown, and former Buffalo Bills receiver John Brown. He allegedly said offseason workouts with those players helped him receive NFL tryout opportunities.
Love can be heard explaining his supposed NFL circle in one viral clip.
“So I have three really, really good friends who play in the NFL right now,” Love says in the clip. One, his name is Tyreek Hill. He plays for the Miami Dolphins.”
For context, Hill is now a free agent after his Dolphins tenure, but Love’s video was recorded years earlier while Hill was playing in Miami.
Love allegedly went even further, claiming the relationships helped put several NFL teams on his trail. Federal investigators said Love represented that he received interest from multiple clubs before San Francisco ultimately “offered me the most money.”
The problem was much bigger than an exaggerated résumé. The affidavit states that representatives for the 49ers and the NFL confirmed Love was never employed by the team or league. Investigators also said they found no payroll checks or direct deposits showing legitimate income from the 49ers or another employer during the period examined.
John Brown was considerably less interested than Hill in extending the joke.
“Boy, I never met you stop all that lying!! Show me some pictures of us or text messages from my number,” Brown wrote after learning that Love had publicly claimed they were close.
Federal prosecutors allege the fake football career helped Love present himself as wealthy and trustworthy to women he pursued romantically. Authorities say he displayed luxury vehicles, wore customized 49ers gear and used fictitious financial accounts to support the image. He also allegedly portrayed himself at times as a wealthy real estate investor from Switzerland.
Investigators say Taylor Jamie Chan, 18, allegedly played the role of Love’s financial adviser. Prosecutors accuse the pair of pitching nonexistent investments, showing women fabricated balances and encouraging some victims to send additional money or obtain personal loans. Financial records reviewed by investigators allegedly show approximately $1.3 million flowing from victims to Love and Chan.
Authorities arrested both men at Boise Airport on August 24 after Chan traveled from California to meet Love. Investigators say Love was in Idaho seeking additional victims at the time. Both were charged by criminal complaint with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud. The allegations remain accusations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Love’s alleged football mythology did not stop with Hill or the 49ers either. Federal reporting says he used several names, including Jordan Love, and allegedly represented himself in another interaction as being related to Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love.
So Hill joking about his new “bestie” may be the funniest reaction yet, but the federal case underneath the viral clips remains very real. What began online as another unbelievable fake-athlete story now includes more than two dozen identified alleged victims, seven figures in claimed losses, and an FBI investigation that says there may still be additional people who have not come forward.
