Social media has been talking about the 2026 Grammy Awards all week, especially with the big tribute to neo-soul legend D’Angelo coming up. But things got complicated when word got out about who was actually invited to the show. While everyone is excited to see Lauryn Hill perform this Sunday, February 1, D’Angelo’s son, Michael Archer Jr. (Swayvo Twain), dropped a bombshell. He explained in a statement to Loren LoRosa that he and his siblings were originally left out of the loop, saying, “It would’ve been a pleasure to attend, but unfortunately, my siblings and I haven’t received an invitation to be part of this moment celebrating our parents’ lives and work.”
The statement went viral almost immediately because it didn’t sit right with fans that the children of the man being honored weren’t going to be there. Michael, whose mother is the R&B legend Angie Stone, handled the situation with respect during his talk with Loren LoRosa. He made it clear that he appreciates his father getting his flowers, despite the snub.
The Recording Academy reportedly got involved and reached out to Michael directly. Now that things have been smoothed over, it’s confirmed that Michael will be in the building to watch the tribute. It’s a move that had to happen, especially since Michael has stayed so grateful through the whole thing.
He noted, “We remain thankful for the acknowledgment of my father and for the love people continue to show his music and legacy.”
Now that the drama is out of the way, the focus can go back to where it belongs: the music and the long-overdue respect for one of the greats.
