The internet has spent the weekend trying to figure out who “Becky with the good hair” is, and some fans have landed on designer Rachel Roy. Here is where things stand, and what is and is not confirmed.

Beyonce’s visual album Lemonade premiered on April 23, and a line in the song “Sorry” refers to a “Becky with the good hair.” The album hints at infidelity, but neither Beyonce nor Jay Z has said who, if anyone, the line is about.

Fans began pointing at Roy after she shared an Instagram photo with the caption “Good hair don’t care.” Many users read the caption as a response to the song and flooded her account with comments. Roy has not publicly said that she is the person in the lyric, and no one involved has confirmed any link to her.

Roy is a fashion designer and the former wife of Damon Dash, and she has long been described as a friend of the Kardashian family. Some blogs have also revived talk from 2014, when Solange was seen in a widely shared elevator video with Jay Z at the Met Gala, that Roy was somehow connected to the incident. Those claims were never confirmed by anyone involved, and Roy has not addressed them.

For now, this is internet speculation built on a song lyric and an Instagram caption. We will let you know if Roy, Beyonce or Jay Z responds.
