Too $hort says he will be front and center at the Diddy coming home party, and he doesn’t think Puff should be sitting in a federal prison in the first place.
The Oakland legend sat down with Towanda on The TMZ Podcast and made it clear he is not distancing himself from his longtime friend. “I’m going to the Puff Daddy coming home party,” he said.
He laid out the plan plainly. “Puff, his prison sentence keeps getting moved down, down, down,” $hort said. “When he comes home, I’m going to the party.”
He’s right about the date moving. TMZ reports Diddy’s projected release has been moved up to January 21, 2028, ahead of the February 2028 date reported over the summer. That puts the Diddy coming home party a little more than a year away.
Diddy is serving a 50 month sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey after a jury convicted him in July 2025 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. The same jury acquitted him of the most serious charges, racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. He was sentenced that October.
$hort doesn’t believe Diddy should be locked up for the conduct that put him there. He said that in all the years he has known Puff, he never saw anything freaky at his parties. They were regular parties with weed, music and people having a good time. Whatever Diddy did in his private sex life, $hort treats as Diddy’s business.
There is one thing he will judge him for. $hort pointed to the hotel surveillance video showing Diddy kicking Cassie and called out the violence directly, keeping it separate from everything else in the case. He also believes that footage played a huge role in how everything unfolded for Diddy.
The timeline backs him up on the impact. The video went public in May 2024, two months after federal agents raided Diddy’s homes in Los Angeles and Miami and four months before his arrest in New York. Prosecutors later played it for the jury at trial.
$hort also had a theory about Diddy’s 2022 announcement that he was changing his name to Love. “I think when he changed his name to Love, I feel like there was a lot of stuff coming down the pipe that he probably knew and he was like, I got to change my ways,” he said.
As for what happens after the Diddy coming home party, $hort’s advice is to move carefully. He used Bill Cosby as the example of what not to do. “Bill Cosby came home and his first announcement was, I’m about to go do a comedy tour and the world said, no, you’re not,” he said.
His suggestion for Puff is to test the waters first before attempting any big public comeback.
