50 Cent is having the time of his life with the latest report on Diddy in prison, after NBC News sources said the Bad Boy founder has been using a jailbroken tablet to watch Sean Combs: The Reckoning, the Netflix docuseries 50 executive produced about him.
50 posted a screenshot of the NBC News passage to Instagram, set it to Jermaine Jackson’s “Don’t Take It Personal,” and let the jokes fly. “Hahahahaha check out my Emmy award winning doc sean Combs the Reckoning available on Netflix coming to a prison near you,” he wrote. “LOL STREET FIGHTER.”
The tablet detail comes from an NBC News exclusive reported by Chloe Melas. The outlet spoke with four men who spent time in the same unit as Combs at FCI Fort Dix, a low security federal prison in southern New Jersey. Two of them said Combs got his hands on a jailbroken tablet, meaning a device modified to get around the restrictions prisons place on what inmates can access. They said he used it to watch movies and documentaries, including The Reckoning.
The tablet is not even the biggest claim in the report. NBC News obtained footage that appears to show Combs using a cell phone inside the prison. Cell phones are banned under federal law, and possessing one behind bars is a standalone criminal offense. One source also pointed NBC News to an Instagram account with no profile picture that he said Combs uses.
According to the sources, Combs has spent thousands of dollars a month bringing his lifestyle to Fort Dix. They said it took him little time to get a phone, alcohol and a growing number of inmates on his payroll. Some inmates allegedly hold his phone and his fan mail for him. One man said he cooked meals for Combs and others until he got tired of doing it. Another summed up the prison’s black market in one line: “You can pretty much get anything except a key to the front door and a female.”
This is not the first headline about Diddy in prison. Over the summer, NBC News reported that Combs was placed in solitary confinement after a fight with another inmate. Combs, 56, is serving a 50 month sentence after a jury convicted him in July 2025 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. His legal team is appealing the conviction, and his projected release date is February 2028.
Combs’ camp is brushing the whole report off. His spokesman, Juda Engelmayer, said the media is treating ordinary prison life like news. “The only real news is that Sean continues to serve his sentence within the rules and he patiently awaits the court’s decision on his appeal,” he said. A Bureau of Prisons spokesperson told NBC News that contraband, especially cell phones, remains a constant challenge for correctional facilities and that the agency continues to fight it.
For 50, the timing could not be sweeter. The Reckoning premiered on Netflix in December 2025 and became the platform’s most watched program when it debuted. It went on to earn three Emmy nominations and won Outstanding Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Program at the Creative Arts Emmys on September 5. That award went to the series’ editing team, but 50 has been celebrating it as a win for the whole project.
Combs’ lawyers sent Netflix two cease and desist letters over the series, calling it a hit piece built on stolen footage. If NBC’s sources are right, the report of Diddy in prison watching the same doc he fought to stop is the kind of plot twist 50 could not have scripted better. The song choice on his post said the rest.
