DJ Mustard Scores Big in Court, Takes Control of Kids’ School Decisions Over Ex-Wife

DJ Mustard just secured a key win in court that puts him in control of a major parenting decision.

The producer, born Dijon McFarlane, now has final say over educational decisions for his three children with ex-wife Chanel Thierry through August 2026. The ruling comes after issues raised in court about Thierry’s social media activity and how it may impact their co-parenting dynamic.

According to court documents, the judge found that some of Thierry’s posts violated a prior order requiring both parents to avoid speaking in a “negative, disrespectful, or derogatory manner to or about the other parent in a child’s presence or within hearing distance of the child.” Because of that finding, Mustard was granted tie-breaking authority when it comes to school-related decisions for Kiylan, Kauner, and Kody.

The court also ordered both parents to enter high-conflict co-parenting therapy, showing the situation still needs structure moving forward. Mustard must provide a list of three qualified therapists, and Thierry will select one. So while he gained decision-making power in one area, both sides are still being pushed to improve how they work together.

Mustard also requested $30,000 in sanctions, but the judge declined to award any financial penalties. Thierry’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, said, “It is only for five more months from now, so it’s not permanent, and only for educational decisions.”

For now, Mustard holds the final say on school matters, even if the clock is already ticking.
