Does Red Sox’s Pablo Sandoval Have An Eating Disorder?

We’ve probably all gone through a period where we gained a few extra pounds. There’s the freshman 15, the winter gut, and in Pablo Sandoval’s case; the “spring training belly.” Whatever you call it, for the Red Sox third baseman, it’s become the topic of discussion.

Back in In January, Red Sox manager John Farrell said that Pablo Sandoval was “roughly 20 pounds lighter than the last game he played for us in 2015.” However, after seeing him at camp this weekend, that doesn’t look to be the case at all. San Francisco Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow , shared his concern about Sandoval’s weight on KNBR 680 on Monday morning. “We love the guy. He was amazing in our uniform and amazing for our city … there’s no more charismatic guy that I’ve ever met than this guy. You can’t help but love this guy,” Krukow began. “He’s just one of those people that you want to be around. And it’s unfortunate. I mean, he has an eating disorder. It’s plain and simple. He can’t control himself.”

It’s unclear how much weight Sandoval actually gained, but Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski says there is no cause for alarm.

“I’m not concerned,” Dombrowski tells the Boston Globe. “We were watching him very closely all winter. We had people with him at least once a week. The goal was for Pablo to get in better overall condition and I feel like he did improve. Pablo has the body type he has. He’s never going to be svelte. We know that. We wanted him to be prepared for spring training and he is.”

I personally don’t think Pablo Sandoval has an eating disorder. He is just a big fella that likes to eat. I’m sure now that training has commenced, he will get things back in order.
