A quiet Saturday morning in Downtown Los Angeles was shattered by a gruesome scene that left one man dead and authorities searching for answers.
Around 3:40 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department officers were dispatched to the busy intersection of Figueroa Street and Pico Boulevard, situated directly across from the L.A. Convention Center, after receiving reports of a person actively harming themselves.
The scene was quickly blocked off as emergency responders arrived to find the man suffering from catastrophic, self-inflicted injuries. Despite medical efforts, the individual succumbed to his wounds at the location. A white forensic tent was put up by the LAPD to shield the area from public view as they transitioned into a formal death investigation.
While official statements from the department were initially sparse, eyewitness accounts and law enforcement insiders have provided a chilling look at the final moments of the incident. A photographer on the scene with OnSceneTV reported that the man allegedly “cut his penis off and bled to death.”
Further details obtained by TMZ suggest an even more extreme level of self-harm; sources claim the man not only mutilated his genitals but also “sliced his throat and stabbed himself with a sharp instrument,” while reportedly attempting to “cut off his arm.
Investigators found blood and discarded clothing a short distance from where the man collapsed. At this stage, the weapon used has not been identified, and the victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of kin.
