Drake Asks Judge To Ban Social Media Posts From Being Used As Evidence In Forthcoming Assault Trial With Detail

As Drake’s legal issues come to a head, the superstar rapper is asking a judge to ban the use of social media in his forthcoming assault trial.

According to the @blast, the case stems from an incident that occurred back in 2014, involving Drake’s bodyguard, Chubbs. In the incident, according to the victim, music producer Detail, the Canadian superstar invited him over to his L.A. mansion to talk business, but upon arrival, he was met by Chubbs, who reportedly punched him in the face, breaking his jaw.

After the incident, Detail was reportedly hospitalized for his injuries and underwent several surgeries to fully recover. In turn, he reportedly asked Drake to cover his medical expenses, but he refused, which forced Detail to take legal action.

Now, as the trial approaches, Drake is trying to get things straight. In recent court docs, Drake has asked a judge to ban any evidence of hearsay from the trial, especially any statements that originated on the Internet, specifically social media. According to the publication, Drake believes his celebrity status garners a lot of press, some of which could lead to the risk of prejudice if presented to a jury.

“Due to the plethora of news stories available, and after observing Detail’s inclination towards muddying the waters by introducing said news stories during the deposition of Chubbs, Drake is concerned Detail may try to introduce the same stories at trial,” the motion states, adding that a jury would be more inclined to listen to a blog over a live witness.

As a result, Drake wants such evidence banned from the trial to refrain from “confusing the jury and skewing their interpretations of the testimony and documents presented at trial.”
